First, the wholesale price of energy has doubled over the last year. Second, the distribution costs of transporting and metering energy have also risen. The doubling of the energy which we buy on the wholesale markets has risen strongly since our price decrease in June 2007. Energy prices have risen by 90% for gas and £43 pounds more for electricity following this price rise. EDF Energy has committed to reduce the carbon intensity of its electricity generation, by 60 per cent by 2020. Based on its current generation fleet, that represents a reduction of around 12 million tonnes annually by 2020. A typical dual fuel customer on a standard tariff consumes 3,300 Kilowatt hours a year of electricity and 20,500 Kilowatt hours of gas a year.
