First, the cost of the energy which we buy on the wholesale markets has risen strongly since our price decrease in June 2007. Energy prices have risen by 90% for gas and £43 pounds more for electricity following this price rise.
 
The planned reduction is part of the biggest package of environmental initiatives launched by any major British company.
 
‘Most in need’ customers continue to benefit from 15% discount.
 
"We are urging consumers to check that they aren't paying too much and switch away to a better deal if they can," says Ms Conti. "People may save on average £160 by switching suppliers - with the biggest savings likely to be made by people who haven't switched before."
 
55,000 of EDF Energy’s ‘most in need’ customers continue to benefit from a 15% discount below our standard tariff through our Energy Assist tariff. For all our customers, you can be assured that we will continue to work very hard to mitigate the effects on our ‘most in need’ customers through our Energy Assist tariff. EDF Energy’s most vulnerable customers – including those on prepayment meters - are making a total annual saving of up to £159 on dual fuel from the company’s standard rate.
