EDF Energy Networks planning engineer Allan Boardman, who is based at the company’s offices at Barton Road in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, said: “I am delighted to learn that our submission has been chosen as a finalist. The storage unit will be constructed in Hemsby, Norfolk, and connected to the electricity network between Ormesby and Martham in Norfolk. In response to the soaring cost of wholesale energy, higher distribution costs and increased environmental obligations, EDF Energy recently announced an increase in its gas and electricity prices. "We are urging consumers to check that they aren't paying too much and switch away to a better deal if they can," says Ms Conti. "People may save on average £160 by switching suppliers - with the biggest savings likely to be made by people who haven't switched before." "This follows the massive rises announced recently by British Gas and Powergen, so now Npower customers will be paying on average £70 more for gas and 117% for electricity since February last year. Secondly, the increase in the distribution costs of transporting and metering energy from power stations and gas fields to homes and businesses has also risen. This increase is about £4 pa for an electricity customer and around £32 pa for a gas customer. Finally, the costs of meeting our environmental obligations have also risen for renewables, emissions trading and energy efficiency.
