In response to the soaring cost of wholesale energy, higher distribution costs and increased environmental obligations, EDF Energy recently announced an increase in its gas and electricity prices. The design was made possible by the Innovation Funding Incentive, which allows EDF Energy Networks being short-listed for a regional award. A typical dual fuel customer on a standard tariff consumes 3,300 Kilowatt hours a year of electricity and 20,500 Kilowatt hours of gas a year. EDF Energy Networks to spend a proportion of its regulated funds on research and development. It aims to help cut the amount of carbon produced by the UK power industry, by boosting renewable energy production. A household in fuel poverty in the UK is defined by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, as one which needs to spend more than 10 per cent of its income on all fuel use including heating the home to an adequate standard of warmth. This is double the percentage of income that the average household spends. Eva Eisenschimmel, EDF Energy Chief Operating Officer Customers Branch, said: “We regret any decision to raise our prices.
