The project will use light technology developed by engineering company ABB, to convert energy from the electricity network between Ormesby and Martham in Norfolk. A pioneering idea to store electricity, has led to EDF Energy Networks to spend a proportion of its regulated funds on research and development. It aims to help cut the amount of carbon produced by the UK power industry, by boosting renewable energy production. A typical dual fuel customer on a standard tariff consumes 3,300 Kilowatt hours a year of electricity and 20,500 Kilowatt hours of gas a year. Judges at the Energy Innovation Awards have selected the company’s idea for energy storage as a finalist, in the annual competition staged by the East of England Energy Group. ‘Most in need’ customers continue to benefit from a 15% discount below our standard tariff through our Energy Assist tariff. EDF Energy’s most vulnerable customers – including those on prepayment meters - are making a total annual saving of up to £159 on dual fuel from the company’s standard rate.
