The price increase is driven by three factors. First, the wholesale price of energy has doubled over the last year. Second, the distribution costs of transporting and metering energy have also risen. Finally, there have been significant cost increases from meeting our environmental obligations including a major expansion of the Government’s energy efficiency scheme which we fully support. “This idea will make a difference, because it will allow more renewable generation connections to existing electricity networks, and it will also demonstrate the value of energy storage.” The technology is due to be in place by the end of 2009 and if the trial is successful the results will be shared with other distribution network operators. A typical dual fuel customer on a standard tariff consumes 3,300 Kilowatt hours a year of electricity and 20,500 Kilowatt hours of gas a year. 55,000 of EDF Energy’s ‘most in need’ customers continue to benefit from a 15% discount below our standard tariff through our Energy Assist tariff.
