They supply gas and electricity prices. "This follows the massive rises announced recently by British Gas and Powergen, so now Npower customers will really be hit in the pocket as well." The planned reduction is part of the biggest package of environmental initiatives launched by any major British company. A typical dual fuel customer on a standard tariff consumes 3,300 Kilowatt hours a year of electricity and 20,500 Kilowatt hours of gas a year. The technology is due to be in place by the end of 2009 and if the trial is successful the results will be shared with other distribution network operators. Eva Eisenschimmel, EDF Energy Chief Operating Officer Customers Branch, said: We regret any decision to raise our prices. Despite soaring wholesale energy prices, higher distribution costs and increased environmental obligations, EDF Energy recently announced an increase in its gas and electricity to over 5 million customers and generate about 5GW of energy from their coal and gas power stations, as well as combined heat and power plants and wind farms. The company is also a key player in national infrastructure projects including management of private electricity networks serving four London airports and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, the countrys first major new railway in 100 years.
