The project will use light technology developed by engineering company ABB, to convert energy from the electricity network into a form in which it can be saved in high performance batteries. These batteries can be charged and discharged many times over and kept in reserve for times of need, such as when a fault occurs on the network. A typical dual fuel customer on a standard tariff consumes 3,300 Kilowatt hours a year of electricity and 20,500 Kilowatt hours of gas a year. EDF Energy is encouraging our customers to think more about saving energy. EDF Energy was the first energy supplier in the UK is defined by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, as one which needs to spend more than 10 per cent of its income on all fuel use including heating the home to an adequate standard of warmth. This is double the percentage of income that the average household spends. EDF Energy is alone in the industry in making this available to prepayment customers. There is no cancellation fee or penalty should the customer want to come off this product at a later date. EDF
