The project will use light technology developed by engineering company ABB, to convert energy from the electricity network into a form in which it can be saved in high performance batteries. These batteries can be charged and discharged many times over and kept in reserve for times of need, such as when a fault occurs on the network. A typical dual fuel customer on a standard tariff consumes 3,300 Kilowatt hours a year of electricity and 20,500 Kilowatt hours of gas a year.
