These batteries can be charged and discharged many times over and kept in reserve for times of need, such as when a fault occurs on the network. In response to the soaring cost of wholesale energy, higher distribution costs and increased environmental obligations, EDF Energy recently announced an increase in its gas and electricity to over 5 million customers and generate about 5GW of energy from their coal and gas power stations, as well as combined heat and power plants and wind farms. The company is also a key player in national infrastructure projects including management of private electricity networks serving four London airports and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, the country’s first major new railway in 100 years. A typical dual fuel customer on a standard tariff consumes 3,300 Kilowatt hours a year of electricity and 20,500 Kilowatt hours of gas a year.
