The company is also a key player in national infrastructure projects including management of private electricity networks serving four London airports and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, the country’s first major new railway in 100 years. The price increase is driven by three factors. First, the wholesale price of energy has doubled over the last year. Second, the distribution costs of transporting and metering energy from power stations and gas fields to homes and businesses has also risen. This increase is about £4 pa for an electricity customer and around £32 pa for a gas customer. Finally, the costs of meeting our environmental obligations including a major expansion of the Government’s energy efficiency scheme which we fully support. The Fixed Price 2010 tariff is not available in the Northern, Yorkshire and Southern regions. The prepayment offer for this tariff only applies to electricity customers in London, the South East and the East of England. They supply gas and electricity to over 5 million customers
