The planned reduction is part of the biggest package of environmental initiatives launched by any major British company. EDF Energy employs nearly 13,000 people at locations across the UK. Eva Eisenschimmel, EDF Energy Chief Operating Officer Customers Branch, said: “We regret any decision to raise our prices. Despite soaring wholesale energy prices, higher distribution costs and increased environmental obligations, we have been able to substantially limit the impact on our customers. We will continue to provide competitive prices, deliver excellent service and first class choice at all times.” The design was made possible by the Innovation Funding Incentive, which allows EDF Energy Networks to spend a proportion of its regulated funds on research and development. It aims to help cut the amount of carbon produced by the UK power industry, by boosting renewable energy production. Fixed Price 2010 tariff is not available in the Northern, Yorkshire and Southern regions. The prepayment offer for this tariff only applies to electricity customers in London, the South East and the East of England Energy Group. The price increase is driven by three factors. First, the wholesale price of energy has doubled over the last year. Second, the distribution costs of transporting and metering energy have also risen.
